A Family-Run Care Home in Sunbury-on-Thames
West Lodge and Conservatory
Welcome to the Sunbury Nursing Homes website. Sunbury Nursing Homes is a family run care home based in Sunbury-on-Thames, Middlesex, UK specialising in the nursing care of older people including those suffering from dementia.
Sunbury Nursing Homes is a long established care home and celebrated our 80th anniversary of providing top quality nursing care on 2nd October 2012 having admitted our first resident on that date in 1932.
Sunbury Nursing Homes is, we believe, the oldest care home in Middlesex and Surrey and indeed one of the oldest care homes in the UK. Throughout our long history Sunbury Nursing Homes has been managed and owned by the White family. This family involvement now spans five generations.
The home is fully registered with Care Quality Commission (CQC) and is currently managed by four family directors all of whom are involved in the day to day running of the home together with our Registered Manager, Margaret Ring, and her team of Nurse Managers, who are supported by a very dedicated and experienced team of Nurses, Care Assistants and other ancillary staff to enable us to provide the very highest standard of nursing care.
Our care home is located in Sunbury-on-Thames, which is situated on the borders of Surrey, Middlesex and the London Borough of Richmond meaning Sunbury Nursing Homes is ideally placed for anyone requiring a care home in any of those areas although we are able to admit people from all parts of the UK as we have done many times in the past.
Philosophy of Care
Our care home's "Philosophy of Care" is to provide a homely, caring and friendly
environment and to deliver the level of care that is appropriate to the individual
needs of the person recognising that, at all times, each person has the right
to be treated as an individual, with respect and dignity, as well as having
a right to privacy and to choice; it is the duty of the management and staff
to safeguard these rights and help our residents to exercise them.
Mrs Ellen White
Mrs White – still known as ‘Matron’ to many involved in the home first came to work at Sunbury Nursing Homes in October 1946 as Ellen Hyde having emigrated from her native Ireland. In 1953 she married Edmund White, the grandson of the founder of the home Marion Blamey. Following a break looking after her four children, Ellen took on the role of Matron in 1963 and continued in this role until her retirement in 2009. Even after retiring, she continued to live in her family home in the grounds of the nursing home and took an active interest in the home. During all that time, Mrs White or ‘Matron’ as she was still known by so many people as right up to her death, worked tirelessly to ensure the welfare of everyone involved in the home. She was a loving nurse to those who needed care and a constant source of comfort to their relatives as well as being a mother figure to so many of the staff always taking an interest in their lives and helping in any way she could. This devotion to others meant that apart from her own four children and twelve grandchildren, there are countless others who were also part of her ever increasing extended family, all of which she treated as her own. She was a devout Catholic and a pillar of the local parish of St Ignatius, where she had many friends and was so highly thought of. Her passing will leave a large void in Sunbury.
