As each resident is an individual, we try to make the routine of daily living as flexible as possible.
We provide a varied program of events and group activities. For example, we have a coffee and book club, card games, exercise sessions, knitting and sewing, flower arranging, cooking and baking, film and music afternoons. We even have a Wii for a more modern take on activities. Special occasions and events such as the Royal Wedding, Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Christmas are all celebrated together and we have a fireworks display in November, which is always popular. In fact, whatever time of the year, we’re looking for a reason to enjoy and celebrate life.

Our Activity Team prepare a weekly schedule with a planned activity for each afternoon, which takes place in either the Conservatory or Weir House Drawing Room. Smaller group sessions are also planned for some days in the smaller lounges enabling the residents to have a choice of the various activities. We also try to ensure the activities are as varied as possible in order to cater for the wide range of tastes. Details of the forthcoming events and activities are displayed and circulated around the home so that residents and visitors are aware of what is going on. Residents who prefer not to join in group activities are not forgotten and the care staff in each department offer support and provide planned individual activities whenever possible.
All our residents are encouraged to use the Home as if it was their own and to maintain contact with family and friends and therefore there are no restrictive visiting times. Residents are free to choose to entertain visitors either in their own rooms or in the garden and visitors, particularly spouses, are welcome to have a meal with the resident.
If required, one of the lounges can be booked for celebrating special occasions with friend and family. Birthdays and anniversaries are celebrated in accordance with the individual’s preferences and our catering department will also bake a homemade cake accordingly.
The home has wifi internet connection throughout so access to email and the internet is always available for those who have their own computers, laptops or similar gadgets. There are also computers in three of the day rooms for general personal use as well as being an extra resource for activities.
We also try to get outside the home on occasions and have had outings to lots of local attractions such as Richmond Park, Epsom Downs, Terminal 5 at Heathrow, boat trips on the Thames and various garden centres. Slightly further afield we have also been sightseeing to London.
We also hold regular Resident Forums, where residents, staff and management get a chance to discuss matters and come up with ideas for improvements as well as new ideas for activities.
More details on our ever changing activity program can be found in our News in Pictures and Events pages.
